New for 2023!
The King William Fair held its inaugural Best Bite Food Competition on March 19 with several Fair food vendors and special guest judges! The competition showcased Fair food vendors’ culinary creativity as they presented new and affordable savory or sweet Fiesta food items that can be eaten in one bite and sold at the Fair for less than $5.
The Savory Award went to Kona Ice Alamo City for the Konadilly: chilled sliced pickles soaked in Tigers Blood (Kona Ice flavor) with a drizzle of Chamoy, sprinkle of Tajin and Tamarindo pieces.
The Sweet Award went to BBQ Cuz Its Right for the Funnel Cake Bombs, two funnel cakes - one with caramel drizzle and toffee and another with Margarita drizzle and lemon zest.
Thank you to our Honorable Mention contestants for their tasty treats and creations!
Honorable Mention in the Savory category went to Andie’s Handy Sweets
for the honey popper; and Honorable Mention in the Sweet category went
to Mighty Mini Panquecas for the mighty mini panquecas; Sweet Cravings
By Katherine for the mini chick; and Andie’s Handy Sweets for the
blushing bunuelo!
Thank you to our special guest judges for their contribution to our successful event: Rey Feo 74 Laurence Kurth; Charro Queen Annika Chapa Primera; Michael Quintanilla (Mr. Fiesta); Julia Rosenfeld (author of San Antonio Cooks Cookbook); and RJ Marquez (KSAT).
Many thanks to local artist Janice Joplin who graciously created and donated the 2023 Best Bite Savory and Sweet charcuterie plate awards! View her latest work on her website at
